My girlfriend shared this Easter learning activity with me and I could not wait to do this with my little ones. A great biblical teaching moment for the whole family that’s easily understood, fun, and quite delicious!
- 1 12 oz package refrigerated Crescent Rolls
- 8 Large Marshmallows
- 1 Tbs Cinnamon
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 4 Tbs Butter
Roll Marshmallow (the clean and pure body of Jesus) in cinnamon & sugar and butter (spices and oils He was anointed with) then wrap in crescent roll (clean linen strips He was wrapped in). Bake (tomb – 3 days, 3 nights). Cool then break open to find that the marshmallow is no longer there (He Is Risen!).
As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
1. Roll out dough.
The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
2. Melt butter and prepare cinnamon & sugar mixture.
Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.
3. Roll marshmallow in butter then cinnamon sugar mixture.
4. Wrap crescent roll around marshmallow, pinching edges together to seal tightly.
5. Roll in butter (or grease cookie sheet) then place on cookie sheet.
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
6. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightening stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'” Then they remembered his words.
7. Allow 5 minutes to cool. Tear open. Empty!
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Happy Resurrection Day! He Is Risen!
